Hi friends!
As you all already know, Singapore will be hosting the world's inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14-26 August. Around 5000 young athletes, aged between 14 and 18 years old, will converge on Singapore to compete in 26 sports, along with an estimated 1200 media representatives and officials from more than 200 National Olympic Committees.
To spice it up, starting this month, the Youth Olympic Flame will travel from Olympia in Greece, to one city in each continent: Berlin for Europe, Dakar for Africa, Mexico City for the Americas, Auckland for Oceania and Seoul for Asia. To celebrate the passing of the Olympic Flame through Berlin, the Deutsche Olympische Sportbund (DOSB), together with the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, is organising a "Youth Olympic Day" on Saturday, 24 July, in Berlin.
The event will take place at Pariser Platz, in front of the Brandenburg Gate, from 1100h till 1600h. There are booths and games galore, where the public, both young and old will be challenged to play games against German Olympic athletes, to promote the Olympic spirit and embrace the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. From 1300h to 1400h, there will be a ceremony on stage to welcome the flame, and a concert with dance items by youths, both from Germany and Singapore. The YOG mascots, Merly and Lyo, will also be there to interact with spectators. Entry is free!
You and your respective friends and families are welcome to join us in this event! Do let all your friends know about it as well, it'll be a good opportunity for them to participate in a Singapore-organised event here in Germany! (:
See you all there!
Liebe Grüße,
Adeline |
